As a matter of fact, there were two varieties of the dogs used by fishermen. In the 1700s, Newfoundland fishermen made use of the Greater and Lesser St. John’s dogs. Later, the Lesser St. John’s dog was imported to Great Britain, where it became a favorite of the noble.
