This subspecies is the only one native to the Southwestern Deserts. These animals are not picky eaters and use many different food sources. Thus they can hunt domestic animals, cattle, birds as well as deer, moose, caribou, bison, wild sheep, wild goats, etc. Mexican wolf babies should not be taken home, as they are difficult to raise and the conservation status of the species is threatened.
