The breed was developed in England in the 1700s. These dogs were originally bred to hunt foxes; they also made great ratters. The breed was accepted by the American Kennel Club in 1885 as a breed with two varieties.

These are small compact dogs with a lively temper. They have a narrow head and small ears that fold forward and create a “V” shape. There are two types of dogs in this breed which are identical in appearance except for the coat. Wirehaired fox terriers require special training; don't be attracted by their photos only.
