Breeding depression is the curse of white tigers, because the gene responsible for the coat color is somehow associated with a lot of disorders. The death rate among white cubs is dramatically high. In orange tigers, litters contain 3-4 cubs, and usually at least one cub dies. When white cubs are born, about a half of them die in burth. More often than not, white tigers have a whole bundle of illnesses, such as crossed eyes, spinal curvature, twisted neck and shortened tendons of the legs.
