Nowadays, there are only 5 living subspecies of tigers and all of them are endangered. 3 subspecies are already extinct due to uncontrollable hunting, habitat destruction, poaching and human encounters. Tiger body parts are valuable in Asian traditional medicine and poaching for the pelts and other body parts is a problem. Keeping tigers as pets is not a good idea not only because of their endangered status, but rather due to their fierce nature. It’s impossible to turn such a strong predator into an affectionate family companion. Still, these animals are kept in some estates as a matter of prestige.
