There are many species of these macropods, which inhabit rocky areas of New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Queensland, and Western Australia. They are gray-brown above and yellow or pale-gray underneath, with a long striped tail, which gives the species its name. They are very quick and light in movements and can jump on sleepy stones with ease due to their thickly padded and roughened feet. Ring tailed rock wallaby are protected from hunting except for picture purposes.
