A special short-leg gene gives this chicken a peculiar look. But on the other hand, it becomes lethal if the chicken inherits two short-leg genes from the parents; so about one quarter of the hatch is lost because of the genetics.

Chicks inheriting two regular-leg genes are of pet quality only and cannot be shown or sold at a high price. Aside from such genetic problems, these chicks are easy to breed and raise, as they are hardy and the hens are of high fertility rate.
