The commercial trade of these animals is prohibited by international law. There are less than 200 species left in the wild, and about 250 cats are found in zoos. Many felines are forced to leave their habitat due to lack of prey. Deforestation and human intrusion upon their areas have resulted in an increased number of fatal human-feline encounters.
