The breed appeared due to a mutation that caused a curly coat and was developed from the shorthaired, curly coated dilute calico female. This is a medium to large breed with heavy bones and muscular body. The head is slightly more rounded than in the British Shorthair.

The coat is soft in texture and comes in a variety of colors including “pointed” colors with more dark hairs on the face, tail, and legs.
