Saint Bernard Rescue

The dog of this breed is powerful, proportionally tall, heavy-boned and muscular. These dogs express dignity and assertiveness. Males weigh from 170 to over 200 pounds. Females are a bit smaller and look more feminine. There are two varieties of the breed: the longhaired type and the shorthaired type. The letter is primary and appeared in the 19th century.

Acceptable colors are white with red, red with white, and brindle patches with white markings. A dark mask over the eyes is not a requirement, but frequently met. The dogs originated from native dogs of the Alps. As with all modern Swiss breeds, these dogs were used for guarding and herding.
