This organization appeared in Kentucky in 1891; it was the first horse breed association in the USA. The aim of this organization is to promote the breed, to preserve its unique characteristics and to encourage breeders to producing only high quality horses.

Nowadays there are more than 75,000 horses of this breed are registered in the USA. Only purebred animals can be registered in this organization.
