Russia is the mother country of this breed that is about 24-26 cm high and belongs to the Toy group of breeds. They were developed in Leningrad in the 1950's and are the result of crossing the Bichon Frise with Shitz Tzu.

It is known that breeders also used the crosses with some other small breeds such as the poodle and yorksire terrier. By the 1960's, the breed became uniform and their numbers were stable.
