The height of these dogs is from 24 to 27 inches at the withers; the weight varies from 100 to 130 pounds. Bitches are 22-25 inches at the withers and 85-115 pounds in weigh. These dogs are easily recognizable by their massive athletic body and large broad head. This breed appeared in Germany in the town of Rottweil. Its main aim was herding and guarding the cattle. Some people think that dogs of this breed are too aggressive and should be banned, but it is untrue, because much depends on the owner.

No signs of aggression are permissible in this breed. A show dog that menaces or threatens the judge or exhibits any sign that it may not be safely approached is excused from the ring. Responsible breeders test the breeding stock and use only stable and gentle sires and dams before breeding.
