These dogs possess strong, muscular and slightly arched body and powerful quarters. Their chest is very deep and capacious, with well-sprung, never rounded ribs. The coat is short and dense, glossy in appearance, but not wooly or silky, ranging from light to red wheaten.

The dogs are 25-27 inches height and weigh about 80 lbs (bitches are 24-26 inches and 70 lbs). Every dog of this breed should have a ridge of hair along the back, consisting of two symmetrical crowns that grow in the opposite direction.
