The breed was brought to Europe at the end of the 16th century, and even after that it had to undergo several major transformations before obtaining its current shape. I the 1800s there were two basic varieties: Willoughby and Morrison, which differed in color and shape.

These dogs belong to the toy group, and they are considered to be the largest in the group. They weigh 14-18 pounds, and their sturdy body is much like that of the Bulldog.
