Modern Canary dogs appear to have retained their fighting spirit and determination, and they make excellent home guardians. They have thick skin, square bodies and massive head with powerful jaws. Canary dogs occur in fawn or brindle; white markings are acceptable.

Also called Perro de Presa Canario, Canary Dog, Dogo Canario.
The Canary dog has an aggressive temperament and formidable appearance. Its gene pool contains the genes of the Bardino Majero, which is now extinct, and the English Bulldog. Traditionally, these dogs were presented in dog-fighting competitions in the 19th century.
