They are a potentially threatened species. In 1973 the US, Canada, Norway, the former USSR and Denmark entered into the International Agreement for the Protection of these animals. After this, the population of these large mammals increased. You can approach the polar bear population for taking photo, but hunting is strictly prohibited.
