Baby Polar Bear

Like other members of this family, these creatures are solitary except for females with cubs. Females become mature at 5-6 years old; litters consist of 2-4 cubs. There is little chance for all cubs to survive; usually 1-2 reach adulthood.

Males sometimes kill the cubs, so mothers try to avoid adult males. Cubs remain with the mother for 2-2,5 years. People don’t pose threats to the wild population of these animals; they may die only of lack of food, accumulating toxins in the body and oil spills.
