Shrews are insectivores, not rodents, although they bear a strong resemblance to mice. Shrews can be found even in Alaska. They are about 3-6.5 inches long, and they are mostly grizzled brown in color. Shrews reside in hollows, under leaves or fallen trees. They are solitary except when breeding. Shrews do not completely lose activity in winter, and they can make tunnels in snow. Shrews are beneficial for farmers as pest-controllers.
