The Galiceno is a breed descended originally from the northwestern province of Galicia, Spain and later was brought to Mexico by Spanish explorers. Starting in the 1950s, The Galiceno Pony began to spread northward into the United States from Mexico. This breed is considered a perfect transition horse for younger riders making the change from ponies to horses.
