The Connemara Pony's origins go back some 2,500 years to the time when Celtic warriors brought their dun colored ponies onto the island of Ireland. They used them mostly for pulling carts and war chariots. This area was mountainous and barren and the Connemara Pony developed great hardiness and jumping ability. This breed is considered the Ireland's only native breed.
