Inhabiting the Yukon entirely, except for Artic coastal plains, Yukon lynx (a close bobcat relative) is the only resident cat. Endangered, it has faced severe decline especially in the Southwestern Yukon region where numbers fell from 115 to 6. With graceful stealth of a solitary feline hunter, Yukon lynx search almost exclusively for snowshoe hare as food, thus, Yukon lynx population correlates directly to that of snowshoe hare. Yukon lynx overlap ranges and sometimes socialize.
