Primarily indigenous to Patagonia, Argentina, the Patagonia Cavy is related to the guinea pig, but doesn't appear like one. This two toned diurnal rodent has long legs with hoof-like claws, large ears, and large eyes. These burrowing animals run very fast and can leap up to six feet. They feed on grassy plants. They live in colonies and breed August to November. Females have 1-3 babies per litter. Communications consist of grunts, grumbles, and screams.
