Varigated Rough Lemurs (ring-tailed lemurs) are black and white pre-simians from two islands off the coast of Africa (Madagascar and Comoro.) Pre-simian means pre-monkey and pre-ape; lemurs are older having existed for millions of years. Identified by their black and white fur and soft, flexible, opposable toes and fingers, they use their tail for balance and locating their mates. Acute sense of smell aids to locate food. Social creatures, they live in large troupes.
