Two African (black and white) and three Asian (India, Java, Sumatra) are five remaining rhinoceros species dating back millions of years to the Miocene era. One of the largest land mammals, its weight ranges from 750 to 8,000 pounds; height measures 4.5-6 feet. Seventy-five Java Rhinos remain yet all five species, hunted for body parts for Asian medicine and horns, have become severely endangered. They inhabit savannas to tropical regions grazing on grass and foliage.
