The Russo-European Laika was developed in Russia and Finland during the 1700's to hunt big game such as bear, elk, boar, and pheasant. Some canine historians claim this breed to be the same with the Karelian Bear Dog, however, many countries consider them separate breeds. The Russo-European Laika is usually smaller in size than the Karelian.
