The Miniature Poodle, or Caniche, is easily trained, follows instructions, and learns at a fast rate. For this reason, the circus ring is its domain of choice. It performs several amazing tricks with agility, grace, charm, and energy. It seems to understand human speech. Don't exclude it from activities or else it will feel snubbed and looked over. They're super smart, clever little pets. Even though it barks a lot, it makes a great watchdog for the family. It lacks aggressiveness although neurotic traits can be present. Question the breeder about seeing the dog's parents, grandparents, and siblings to spot characteristics like nervousness, fear, and uptight behavior. Poodles are friendly with other dogs too, but early socialization is highly recommended. The Poodle originated in France. The word, "pudel", translates to "one who plays in water". The Poodle, unsurprisingly, was descended from a French dog, the Barbet. The Barbet loved the water.
The Miniature Poodle is 10 to 15 inches high at the withers, and it's 15 to 17 pounds. It has a square build and a dignified gait. They have coiled, crisp, frizzed hair that's not fur. Its sometimes arranged in distinctive puffs. It grows through the year, and it doesn't shed at all. Therefore, it requires constant grooming to stay sharp looking and clean. The pet clip, English saddle clip, and Continental clip are the three basic types. The Continental clip is distinct. The Poodle is completely shaved on the back with bracelets and pom-poms left around the hips, tail, and ankles. Many people assume that Poodles have this appearance naturally, but it actually requires considerable grooming to maintain it. Sometimes, cats and dogs that are naturally shaved confuse them. They assume that the Poodle has a natural shave as well, which is erroneous. The hypoallergenic coat comes in a profuse array of colors that include black, blue, silver, cream, apricot, red, white, brown, and they're often seen with just pure white coloring. The tail is docked, oftentimes. They live about 12 to 15 years. They're generally healthy, but they're prone to genetic disorders of various sorts. Some samples include Addison's disease, cataracts, epilepsy, and Chronic active hepatitis. Like most dogs, it's prone to Von Willebrand's disease and gastric torsion.
Germans and Frenchmen to hunt and retrieve waterfowl used the Miniature Poodle. The origin of the odd bracelets and pom-poms on the joints, legs, and hips was to protect the dog from cold water and sharp rocks and reeds underwater. The hair was clipped and trimmed short to let the dog swim more fluidly and quickly. An alternative origin of the dog's name comes from "Pudelin". "Pudelin" is a slight variation on "Pudel", and it means "to splash in the water".
The Miniature Poodle is supremely trainable. It excels at reading body language, expressions, and the wishes of handlers. It is sensitive, high-strung, neurotic, and timid sometimes. It barks a lot, and it's a good watchdog. Miniature Poodles need to be clipped and trimmed every month or so.
