The Miniature Schnauzer is sometimes called the Zwergschnauzer or Mini Schnauzer. The Standard Schnauzer, Affenpinshcer, and Poodle make up its origin. It hails from Germany where it was developed in the middle part of the 19th century. It is a favorite dog in the United States. Always useful and smart, the dog was created to guard households, farms, livestock, and even hunt down the varmints that threatened food supplies and farm animals. Pests can carry diseases and eat out of the food supply. They had tenacity for killing rats because of their small size too. They were able to chase the rat in a way that no human could. Their stature served them well, and Germany added another unique breed to its list of popular, native-born breeds. The temperament is energetic, lively, and obedient. Oftentimes, the first two characteristics are found in certain breeds, e.g. Terriers, without the latter. This combination of intelligence, obedience, and energy have helped make it the 11th most loved U.S. breed. Their coat colors come in red & pepper, black & silver, black, and white. The Miniature Schnauzer is a squarely built dog, and it's 12 to 14 inches in height at the withers, and it weighs 11 to 20 pounds. It has bristling, hirsute, hairy eyebrows, mustache, and beard. The tail is usually docked, and the ears are usually cropped. It has a black nose, dark oval eyes, and a scissors bite. It has V-shaped ears, and it lives 10 to 15 years. They often show no signs of being old until their latest years. These dogs are playful, happy-go-lucky, and energetic companions. They get along well with children. They bark a lot unpleasant. The low-pitched bark is like a human voice. They're good watchdogs. These dogs are somewhat comical because they're generally dog aggressive. However, it's mostly for show, and they oftentimes cower when a bigger dog actually steps up to the plate to fight with it. This trait is funny, but obedience training, early socialization, and asking the breeder about the parents are all steps to avoid this trait. It will selectively bark at things out of place. It's territorial, and it's related to the Terrier breed. It tends to welcome strangers once the owners have let them in and introduced them. It can be suspicious of strangers. Don't expect it to physically and violently protect the house or people. Its main weapon is its bark, and that can alert the owners to intruders. It doesn't bark indiscriminately or for recreational purposes. The Miniature Schnauzer has a wiry, tufted coat that needs daily brushing with a wire brush to remove mats and other errors. A professional groomer should clip it,, in the Spring and Fall. Like the Poodle, its coat is hypoallergenic to many people. Furthermore, they don't shed. Its bravado is similar to a bluff around other dogs. Don't let it get out of hand around other dogs. This dog also loves the snow. It's a veritable lap dog that's always nosing around your affairs. Miniature Schnauzers should be rewarded for good behavior, and they're extremely receptive to positive encouragement.
