The Vizsla, Hungarian Vizsla, Hungarian Short-haired Pointing Dog, and Rövidszörü Magyar Vizsla are synonymous with each other. The Vizsla can be stubborn and easily distracted, but its intelligence lends itself to easy training and handling. Even energetic children find them peppy and energetic. They're always ready for playtime. The breed will bounce about you in circles and quickly run amok. However, it's very willing to please and will benefit from training to help temper its energetic impulses. Without plentiful exercise sessions, it will wreak havoc or develop psychological problems. The breed needs at least a mile of walking per day. If you're not a fit and active outdoor type, then an indoor dog like the Bulldog is more for you. One of the key things before purchasing a dog is to know its temperament. Purchasing on looks alone can be chaotic for both parties. It has a fine chiseled face, floppy & droopy ears, and gentlemanly muzzle. The Vizsla has a bronze, sandy and creamy yellow, burnt orange, or burnished rust-colored coat. Dogs are 22 to 26 inches high at the withers, and bitches are 20 to 24 inches at the withers. Dogs weigh 45 to 60 pounds, and bitches weigh 40 to 55 pounds. It has a lifespan of 12 to 15 years. Vizslas don't do well if they're not around their owners frequently. They need companionship to stay mentally healthy. The Vizsla can suffer from PRA, hip dysplasia, Von Willebrand's disease, Entropion, Cranial Muscular Atrophy, Lymphosarcoma, Dysphagia-megoesophagus, Hypothyroidism, and even Sebaceous Adenitis. These diseases are mentioned because it's important to check with the vendor or breeder to assess the parents' and grandparent's health. Furthermore, the veterinarian can tell you how to prevent, treat, and cure certain of these diseases before they flare up and become hard to treat effectively. It acts as a pointer, retriever, tracker, watchdog, and show dog. They're perfect for children because they're high-octane playmates with a desire to run, frolic, and explore. These dogs can, and do, jump fences that are too short. The Vizsla has relatively little dog odor, it sheds normally, and it needs to be expertly bathed a half dozen times annually. It likes to nestle under the covers with its master if it's allowed. It has a lot of fine & short hair that hugs the body tightly. Surprisingly, repeat entries into the water produce less dog odor than other breeds. It has beautiful white teeth, a brown nose, and an eye color that blends in with the coat's color. Vizslas are probably descended from Transylvania Hounds, Turkish Yellow Dogs, and Weimaraners. Their history goes back approximately 1,000 years in time. There are paintings from the 14th century depicting them. The Vizsla has a name that directly translates to "alert & responsive" in the Hungarian tongue.
