The Italian Pointer was used in the Middle Ages for netting birds and then later was adapted for shooting. This made it the oldest of the European pointers. To make this breed lighter and faster, they were crossed with the English Pointer. With firm training, the Italian Pointer is skilled at all kinds of hunting including searching for quarry and retrieving.
Also called Bracco Italiano.
