The Fila Brasileiro originated in Brazil and its history is closely linked with Brazilian history. This breed seemed to develop from crossing the English Mastiff, Bloodhound and English Bulldog out of pure necessity for the colonists need of a strong, sturdy, and hard-working dog that would be, concurrently, a good cattle driver, a quality jaguar hunter, a skillful guard dog, and a loyal companion. Today, the breed is still very popular in Brazil.
