Livestock Guardian Dogs
As working dogs, Livestock Guardian Dogs (LGDs) were domesticated to protect livestock from predators. Independent, protective, gentle towards their assignees including children, they balance their responsibility to stay with the livestock against caretaker check-ins. Commonalities among LGD breeds are abundant, but their temperament ranges from being well-mannered around people (Pyrenees) to hostility towards non-camp members (Tibetan Mastiffs;) the majority are somewhere in the middle. Nowadays, they are also used as watchdogs and pets.
