Though originating from Denmark, the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is considered a French breed because most of its later development took place in France. Because of its coarse coat, the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is suitable for swampy country, swimming, and water retrieving. Its original purpose was a hunting dog, but due to its loving nature it makes a great pet also.
