A dog of very ancient lineage, the Irish Water Spaniel can be traced back to the time when the family of spaniels was divided into the land and water types. This breed has a naturally water-shedding coat that is suitable for water retrieving. These dogs were revered for their bold, cold-water retrievals in the North Sea waters. They have an extraordinary enthusiasm for life and cannot always control it, making them forever ready for play.
