The Australian Bandog is named from the term "Bandog," which means a large guard dog that was bound by a chain until it was released at night in order to guard property. Their powerful build of the Australian Bandog creates a threatening appearance for strangers. Even though they exhibit an obvious preference to their family, the Australian Bandog will get along with welcomed visitors to the home.
