The American Foxhound descended from the English, French and Irish Foxhound. They are the oldest sporting dogs in America. This breed was bred to hunt fox and other animals in the woodlands of eastern America. The American Foxhound would rather hunt alone than in packs; it is lighter boned and looks more like a hound dog than its cousin, the English Foxhound.
