The Beauceron Dog is a rare French dog that is almost unknown outside of France. Beauceron Dogs were derived as hunting dogs for wild boar. The Beauceron is still used on farms in France to herd sheep and cattle. Beauceron Dogs are the most preferred dogs in France for herding and are said to have been palace dogs at one time. There is an ancient painting showing two Beaucerons guarding the throne of a French king.
