The Australian Shepherd Dog's origin is not completely clear, however it is agreed that these dogs were given their name because of their association with the Basque sheepherders who came to the United States from Australia in the 1800's. The American ranchers bred their own shepherds with the dogs that came from Australia and developed the Australian Shepherd Dog. The Miniature Australian Shepherd Dog is just a smaller version of the full size dog.
