The Balkan Hound ancestors are thought to have originated in Egypt and brought to Europe by the Phoenicians around 1000 BC. The Balkan Hound came from Yugoslavia, and was bred for tracking and hunting big game. Balkan Hounds frequently work in packs to hunt and track wild boar and deer.
