The Presa Canario originated from the Canary Islands of Tenerife and Gran Canarias. It is a result of crossbreeding between the Bardino or Mahorero from the Islands of Fuerteventura and molosoid dogs, which were introduced to the islands from abroad. They are versatile dogs with a good disposition for fighting and animal hunting, and are able to perform several jobs including guarding, defense, and companionship.
Also called Canary Dog, Dogo Canario, Perro de Presa Canario.
