Created as obedient devoted family dogs capable of intensive harsh climate work, today Northern Intuits are yet companions eager to work and please. They compete in obedience, agility, flyball, and sledge pulling. Their eagerness and keen sense of smell predispose them for search and rescue, blind men's guides, hearing dogs for the deaf, PAT dogs, and disabled assistance dogs. They are too gregarious to be guard dogs. Although wolf-like descendants, they not considered a wolf hybrid.
