Dog breeds were developed in different fashions and for different purposes. Some modern breeds combine features of old-time species, which were in a way involved in major historic events, where they showed their most valuable qualities. Thus, Rottweilers originated from powerful guard dogs, which arrived with Roman conquerors and contributed to their victories. Rottweilers were supposed to retain these old traits and qualities, and it is also the case with other breeds.
