Dachshund means "badger dog" in German. They were developed in Germany to hunt badgers over 300 years ago. Selective breeding and introduction of Pinscher, Papillion and Schnauzer blood produced the Miniature Dachshund. On average, this breed weighs 9 pounds. The Miniature Dachshund makes an excellent companion regardless of where you live.
