The Kai Ken is thought to have once been the Finnish Spitz before developing into its own separate breed after some of the breeding occurred in Western Russia. This breed was used as a hunting dog and assisted professional hunters in pursuing wild boar and deer. Once thought to be too primitive to serve as a family pet, today the Kai is a gentle and devoted companion.
