The Jindo is believed to have originated from crosses between indigenous Korean dogs and dogs brought by the Mongols during their 13th century invasion of Korea. On Jindo Island in Korea, this breed developed an extremely pure strain due to its isolation. This dog has been used for hunting and guard dogging and today in Korea it is a National Treasure. In the 1988 Olympic Games, the Jindo was part of the opening ceremonies.
