The Grand Mastin de Borinquen is the only breed that is native to the island of Puerto Rico. This breed is a cross between the Spanish War Mastiffs, traditional island dogs (Perros Jibaros) and Latin American Molossers. In 1979, this dog was established as a rare breed by the Society Cynologica Caribena (S.C.C.) and is still rarely available today.
