The East European Shepherd is known as the favorite dog of the KGB and has a fierce loyalty and devotion to its owner. A descendent of the German Shepherd, the East European Shepherd was bred for hardiness and resilience in the harsh Russian climate. The breed can make an exceptional watchdog, but is probably not the best pet for families with small children.
