The Curly-Coated Retriever is believed to have originated from the English Water Spaniel, Retrieving Setter and possibly the Irish Water Spaniel. This Curly-Coated Retriever breed is one of the oldest breeds classified as a retriever. They are prized for instinctive field ability, courage and resolute perseverance. A correctly built and spirited Curly-Coated Retriever will work as long as there is work to be done, retrieving both fur and feather in the heaviest of cover and the iciest of waters.
