Early American settlers used the Blackmouth Cur as an all-round working dog. The exact origin of the Blackmouth Cur is in disagreement, but it originated in the United States. They served as hunting dogs and family guardians as the settlers moved west. This breed has also been widely used as an agile tree dog. The Blackmouth Cur is a fast, hard hunter that finds game using its eyes, ears and nose.
