The American Eskimo ancestry is apparent as far back as 4000 B.C. The actual name, "American Eskimo" was not assigned until about 1910. Although a popular belief, the American Eskimo dog is not descended from the working sled dog. In the early 20th century, the American Eskimo Dog was a favorite among circus performers.
